Let’s enjoy summer by doing some outdoor crafts! This is the perfect way to get outside, and transform an old cinder block into a planter! You could even have a group of friends over for a little summer crafting party!
Lets get started!
For this project you will need:
- Patio paint, found here
- Peacock Stencil, found here
- Lotus Mandala 1 Stencil, found here
- Lotus Mandala 2 Stencil, found here
- Bohemian Mandala Stencil, found here
- White Bristle Stencil Brush, found here
Let’s get crafting!
First, thoroughly scrub your your cinder block with a stiff-bristles brush, to get rid of any debris. Then rise your block off with water and let it dry completely. Its really important to prepare your surface well, because it gives the rest of the project a good base.
Once your block is dry, use a foam roller to paint your block with cloud white patio paint. Once the block is covered, let the paint dry completely.
Spray the back side of one of your mandala stencils with spray adhesive. Once the adhesive has dried, press it into the cinder block. You want to place it in the center of one of the halves. Then tape around the edges with painters tape to make sure you paint within the stencil.
Use a paper plate as a pallet and squeeze out some of the fiesta yellow patio paint. Load up your brush with paint then unload it onto a paper towel, until the bristles feel dry to the touch. Then start swirling the paint through your stencil.
Start overlapping, and layering colors the colors, making sure to use a different brush for each color.
Repeat this process with the rest of the Mandala stencils!
Now you can paint the other surfaces with the peacock stencil! Just follow the same steps, and use the same color scheme. Re-position the stencil to cover areas that are blank, taping off the areas that are already painted. Just continue to move the stencil until you are happy!
Voila! Now you have a planter all your friends will be jealous of 😉
Once the paint has dried, you can fill these planters with soil and plants!
