Try vamping up a plain tissue box with these sea life stencils!
For this project you will need:
- Wood tissue box (You could find this at Home Goods, Bed Bath and Beyond, Target, really any store with a “Home” section)
- Coarse sand paper
- Sea life stencils: coral, dolphins
- Acrylic Paints (Driftwood, Slate Grey, Zinc, & Titanium White): here
- Other accessories needed are: Spray Adhesive, Painters tape, Stencil paint brushes
Let’s get started!
First, use the coarse sand paper to sand off the glossy finish on the tissue box. If you don’t sand it the paint won’t be able to stick to the tissue box. Once you’ve sanded the box, wipe off the dust with a damp cloth.
Use the painters tape to protect the edges of the tissue box. Then you can start painting the sides with acrylic paint! We used the colors driftwood, slate and zinc for the sides.
Then spray the back side of your coral stencil with spray adhesive. Then press the stencil into your box! Use one part of the stencil for each side(see pictures below). Next, coat your brush with titanium white acrylic paint, dab off the excess and start swirling your paint through the stencil. Once one side is painted, peal off your stencil and move onto the next side! If you are worried about painting through part of the stencil that you don’t want to, simply use the frog tape to tape it off!
Once you’re done painting, peel off the tape and enjoy!
